Thankfully, the record-breaking call volumes have stabilized, and the extreme heat has broken to some extent over the province.
But this weekend, 9-1-1 Operators are still working under challenging conditions.
The extreme heat might be behind us, but we are still dealing with an increase in calls from summer activities, the Province-Wide Reopening, extreme fire risk, and a 9-1-1 Operator Staffing Shortage.
Over this long weekend, 9-1-1 Operators are being asked to work any additional overtime that they can handle and cancel their much-needed vacation to come in and answer the phones and radios.
Emergency Communications Professionals are also dealing with the psychological fall out from hearing so much pain and suffering that has occurred this past week. Our hearts are breaking for all those affected or who have lost loved ones.
We mourn and grieve profoundly for those losses.
Thank you to the Paramedics, Fire Fighters, Police Officers, and our fellow emergency operators at other agencies who responded to the extreme conditions that stretched the system past its limit this past week.
Thank you to the Paramedics, Fire Fighters, Police Officers, their dispatchers and call takers, and the others who are responding to the growing wildfire situation.
Please remember if you call 9-1-1 to be kind, to stay on the line, and know your location. Please refrain from causing any sort of open flame and please be careful with all sources of heat.
Emergency Communications Professionals are working hard around the clock to make sure you get the help you need when you need it over this long weekend.
